Kingston Maurward – Old Chalk Quarry SY718.917

Site description: Disused quarry.

Geology: Small quarry in Upper Chalk. Chalk shows three or four marl horizons and contains small scattered flints. Not fossiliferous. Excellent exposure of pre-Tertiary erosion surface with solution hollows filled with ferruginous flint gravels.

Parking: Limited parking in road but off-road parking usually possible through gate to bridleway on north side of Tincleton Road. Access to quarry is a few metres off bridleway to the NE.

Education level: A level/University.

Note: Just south of the quarry is a fine section of the Dorchester to Badbury Rings Roman road.
